July 2015 - Making Caribbean Food - Hummus and Salsa

1st July 2015

In year 2 we made hummus and salsa the Caribbean way and enjoyed eating it with dips. We had to learn skills such as peeling and cutting a clove of garlic, mixing, juicing a lemon and measuring out ingredients.
If you want to try making the hummus  at home you need: a tin of chick peas, 2-3 tablespoons of reggae reggae sauce, 5 tablespoons of olive oil, the juice of a lemon, 3 cloves of garlic and a pinch of salt. Chop the garlic and squeeze in the lemon juice; mix all of it together and if you have a blender ask a grown up to blend it for a smoother finish.
To make the salsa you chop 1 red onion, then mix in a bowl with a tin of chopped tomatoes, chopped mint and coriander, a tablespoon of olive oil and the juice of a lime. With a pinch of salt blend it all together thoroughly.
Some of us tried eating something new today! Remember – you have to eat something 8 times before you decide if you like it or not!
