HLTA's / Teaching Assistants

Mrs Amos

Teaching Assistant

After completing my level 3 BTEC Diploma in college, I continued a career in various childcare roles as a Nanny, Nursery Nurse, children's club entertainer and a family contact supervisor up until having my own 3 children. They now all attend Waycroft and I was fortunate to be offered a position in the Nursery.

After having my children I had a change in career for 7 years, where I set up a small bespoke cake business, and this continues as an enjoyable hobby as I love to create anything, as well as setting off on family camping trips.

Miss Archer

Higher Level Teaching Assistant

My first job was at Birmingham University, where I ran courses for mature students from the developing world. I thoroughly enjoyed this position as I met some amazing people and was able to travel to some fantastic places! However after meeting my partner who is a Bristolian, I decided to make the leap and move to Bristol.

I then spent 3 years working at the University of West England as a student advisor. After the birth of my 2 children I decided to take a career break to bring them up but often came into Waycroft to hear children read - this is when I realised that my future was in working with children!

I successfully passed my level 3 teaching assistant course and the rest is history. I have worked in upper key stage 2 (years 5 and 6) for many years now and no day is ever the same! The children make me smile every day and I do love it when they have a light bulb moment!

Mrs Barry

Teaching Assistant

Having spent a vast amount of my working life in Finance a change of career beckoned. Having thoroughly enjoyed 10 years of volunteering whilst my children attended the school, I felt that this was something I would enjoy as my next job.

Since joining the school I have been based in year 5 & 6 but have lots of interaction with the rest of the children on a daily basis. I have a keen interest in photography and volunteering. In the past, I have been a Special Constable, a Games Maker at the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic games and most recently a Pack member at the 2015 Rugby World Cup.

Mrs Belsten

Teaching Assistant

Before having children, I had office based jobs, working in administration and accounts, including doing the accounts for my husbands company.
I had a break from working while I raised my 3 children, so was able to be a parent helper at waycroft when my oldest started, and I continued to volunteer over years. When my oldest moved to secondary school, and my youngest moved up to KS2, I felt the time was right for me to go back to work, and I was lucky enough to be offered a position in Waycroft nursery.
Outside of school, I enjoy spending time with my family, cooking and baking cakes!

Miss Chilcott

Teaching Assistant

I started with Waycroft whilst studying towards my qualification as a Teaching assistant, I was lucky enough to be accepted for a placement in Year 2 then even luckier to be offered a position with Year 1. I have a history with the school as I attended myself and also my two daughters have attended from nursery.

In my spare time I volunteer as leader at the local Cubs group and I also enjoy going to festivals and camping with my family, my happy place is by the sea.

When the school amalgamated in 2000 I applied for a job as a teaching assistant and have been here ever since. I have worked across all key stages and have done 1_1 support. but have spent many years in year 1 which I love. The children never cease to make me smile and no two days are ever the

My association with Waycroft began when my own children started school here. I became a parent helper in Year 1, which resulted in applying for and accepting a part time Teaching Assistant post. Since then, I have worked across all year groups from Nursery to Year 6. During this time I gained my HLTA status and I now work full time, supporting Lower Key Stage 2 in the mornings and covering PPA in the afternoons, teaching French and discrete computing.

I have been associated with Waycroft for many years as a pupil myself and then my own children went on to follow suit. Over the years I have worked across both key stages supporting many children through their learning journeys. I love to spend my free time with my family and most weekends you will find me at the coast in sunny Devon where I hope to one day retire.

Outside of work I enjoy gardening, cooking, travel and trying to understand my childrens homework

Mrs Kibbey

Teaching Assistant

My time at Waycroft began when my own children attended and I became a parent helper. I soon took on the position of dinner lady and started my involvement with the 'Friends of Waycroft' eventually becoming secretary. Working in the school gave me the encouragement to attend college and to retrain as Teaching Assistant. I have worked throughout the whole school supporting in classes and individual children, I am currently based in lower key stage 2.

Mrs Moore

Higher Level Teaching Assistant

Mrs Nicholls

Higher Level Teaching Assistant

I began my association with Waycroft many years ago as an 18 years old student in the Nursery. After working as a Nanny, then managing two private nurseries I went on to have my own children which then led me back to my local primary school. I began as a part time TA whilst my own children attended the school, eventually gaining HLTA status and full time employment. Somehow I found myself in upper key stage 2 where I have worked for many years now - a bit of a change from those early days in the nursery.

Mrs Surman

I'm Mrs Thomas and I am based in Reception.
I have two children who both attend Waycroft, I also attended Waycroft along time ago as a pupil!
After I finished school I went on to study childcare and gained my BTEC National Diploma in Early Years level 3.
I have previously worked in a private school as a room leader looking after 2-3year olds. I've also spent many years in an Emergency Services Control Room. My passion is working with children especially in Early Years where each day is never the same.

I first came to Waycroft as a student in Year 2. After 2 years at college and three more placements (including a nursery and another primary school) I finished my Cache Diploma level 3. I was then offered a full-time position as a teaching assistant at Waycroft. I have had experience working across both key stages, however I have spent most of my time in KS2.
