HLTA's / Teaching Assistants

Miss Archer

Teaching Assistant & 1:1 Learning Support

My first job was at Birmingham University, where I ran courses for mature students from the developing world. I thoroughly enjoyed this position as I met some amazing people and was able to travel to some fantastic places! However after meeting my partner who is a Bristolian, I decided to make the leap and move to Bristol.

I then spent 3 years working at the University of West England as a student advisor. After the birth of my 2 children I decided to take a career break to bring them up but often came into Waycroft to hear children read - this is when I realised that my future was in working with children!

I successfully passed my level 3 teaching assistant course and the rest is history. I have worked in upper key stage 2 (years 5 and 6) for many years now and no day is ever the same! The children make me smile every day and I do love it when they have a light bulb moment!

Mrs Barry

Teaching Assistant

Having spent a vast amount of my working life in Finance a change of career beckoned. Having thoroughly enjoyed 10 years of volunteering whilst my children attended the school, I felt that this was something I would enjoy as my next job.

Since joining the school I have been based in year 5 & 6 but have lots of interaction with the rest of the children on a daily basis. I have a keen interest in photography and volunteering. In the past, I have been a Special Constable, a Games Maker at the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic games and most recently a Pack member at the 2015 Rugby World Cup.

Mrs Belsten

Teaching Assistant

Before having children, I had office based jobs, working in administration and accounts, including doing the accounts for my husbands company.
I had a break from working while I raised my 3 children, so was able to be a parent helper at waycroft when my oldest started, and I continued to volunteer over years. When my oldest moved to secondary school, and my youngest moved up to KS2, I felt the time was right for me to go back to work, and I was lucky enough to be offered a position in Waycroft nursery.
Outside of school, I enjoy spending time with my family, cooking and baking cakes!

In my spare time I volunteer as leader at the local Cubs group and I also enjoy going to festivals and camping with my family, my happy place is by the sea.

I started my career as a leader for a local toddler group. When my children started Waycroft I became a parent helper. I really enjoyed the school environment so took my level 3 city and guilds teaching assistant course. When the school amalgamated in 2000 I applied for a job as a teaching assistant and have been here ever since. I have worked across all key stages and have done 1_1 support. but have spent many years in year 1 which I love. The children never cease to make me smile and no two days are ever the
Same. I also worked for mencap running clubs for children and young adults with learning disabilities. My interests are drama and dancing and watching musical theatre shows. I love anything disney!

Mrs Dyer

Teaching Assistant

My journey with Waycroft began as a parent helper in both my son and daughter’s classes, starting in the nursery.

Having never worked with children before, I decided on a complete change of direction when I chose to study a Level 3 Teaching Assistant qualification 13 years ago. On completion of my course I was fortunate to be offered a position in the reception classes, eventually moving to working predominantly in the nursery.

I thoroughly enjoy working within the early years and feel very passionate about the children’s well-being and social and emotional development.

I am also currently studying on a child focused degree path with the Open University, with a particular interest in child psychology.

Outside of work I enjoy spending time with my family, travel, musicals, reading and walking our beloved dog Obi.

I began my association with Waycroft many years ago as an 18 years old student in the Nursery. After working as a Nanny, then managing two private nurseries I went on to have my own children which then led me back to my local primary school. I began as a part time TA whilst my own children attended the school, eventually gaining HLTA status and full time employment. Somehow I found myself in upper key stage 2 where I have worked for many years now - a bit of a change from those early days in the nursery.
